How to fill-in the Tiger Survey Form

Apologies

Sorry - I didn't mean to make it complicated!

There were two things needed to maintain "fainess". One is that, love them or hate them, the charbancs of Ranthambore do allow a lot of people to get a tiger viewing: so I distinguish between a charabanc with 50 tourists and a jeep with 3 tourists.

Secondly, like myself, you may have data for your friends who travelled in different vehicles and had different fortunes. I needed a system that would let you submit all the data on a single line of my website table.

So, have a scrap of paper ready: you may need to produce two lists of numbers. One will be totalled to give the Outings and the other to give the Sightings.

Below is a worked example for a group that had a monumentally-complicated tiger-viewing visit. I am sure you own visit was simpler!

A complicated example

On our first day we had three vehicles.

The first vehicle, with 4 tourists saw nothing: 4 outings, 0 sightings.

The second vehicle had 3 tourists and they saw 2  tigers: 3 outings and 6 sightings.

The third vehicle, with 4 tourists saw 1 tiger sleeping and after some time they went for a drive and came back to see the same tiger again, still asleep: 4 outings and 4 sightings.

Later, in the evening, just one vehicle went out with 2 tourists and they saw 3 tigers: 2 outings and 6 sightings.

So, our first day generated 13 outings and 16 sightings.

On our second day we all went out in a charabanc, which was filled up with strangers. Not sure how many, but shall we say the vehicle contained 40 tourists total.

Early in the trip everyone saw 1 tiger. Later, a second tiger was glimped but few people saw it; maybe a quarter of the bus. So we can report on 40 outings which produced 50 sightings (approximately).

So, for our two-day visit the relevant numbers totalled to

53 outings and 66 sightings

Gordon: "Please note these two numbers ready to copy them on to the data form. Thanks!"

Then we went to another tiger reserve!

Lucky you! When you have filled in the form for your first and submitted it, please could you navigate your way back to to a blank form and fill it in with the figures for your second visit.

Thank you. You are all heroes for doing all this work, which should help future travellers decide how best to plan their holiday.
