Return to Chamonix

Another rainy day - used to pass back through the tunnel.

Here we sit in Chamonix drinking coffee.

In the afternoon we went up to La Flegere,
where we sat out the bad weather.

This elderly hut is roomy and comfortable.

From La Flegere to Le Tour

The weather was kind to us today.

We took the path along the Gran Balcon Sud.

It leads to Tré la Tete and crosses the route to
Argentière that we had taken two weeks before.

Here we noticed a troup of Ibex grazing above us.

We doubled-back to reach them and found them grazing across the path.

They let us get quite close and take photos.

Aiguille du Midi

During our final day at Le Tour we went up the
téléphérique to the Aiguille du Midi.

This offers splendid views of the area.

There are numerous viewing galleries.

One can watch people setting off to walk down the adjacent snow ridge.

Grand Balcon Nord

Coming down from the Aiguille one can get off at the Plan de l'Aiguille.

There is a pleasant cafe.

From there the Grand Balcon path can be followed to Montenvers.

There are two alternative paths near Montenvers. The upper leads to Signal Forbes, with a view looking down on to the Mer de Glace.

Finally, the day finished with a ride down the rack and pinion railway to Chamonix.

...and back home again

We spent our final night back at Chalet Alpin du Tour and then, early the next morning, a minibus came to whisk us back to Geneva Airport and thence to the UK.
